This is going to be short and to the point. I am a music director at a Catholic Church and today is Good Friday. For the next few days, my time will be spent almost entirely in church.
On Good Friday, Christian’s around the world commemorate the day Jesus, unjustly arrested and tortured by the government (with the help of religious leaders), was crucified on a cross of wood.
Today, in response to U.S. Senator Chris Van Holland’s visit with Kilmar Ábrego García at El Salvador’s notorious CECOT concentration camp, the White House posted this to its official X account.
If you haven’t been following the news, Kilmar Ábrego García was deported with no due process to a notorious concentration camp in El Salvador. I don’t have time to get into the details surrounding his arrest and deportation, but it’s been widely covered in the news. The U.S. Supreme Court, in a 9-0 ruling, ordered Garcia’s return, but thus far, the Trump Administration has defied the court’s ruling.
If you identify as a Christian, and espouse Christian values, and still support Trump and his administration of power-hungry buffoons, let me remind you of something:
Jesus was clear:
“I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all people will know that you are My disciples: if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35
The United States is being run by a group of corrupt, heartless, hateful, juvenile, and yes, DEPLORABLE assholes. While nearly all in his administration identify as Christians, make no mistake: they are Christians in Name Only!
It’s time for Christians to have courage and stand up against this evil.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
