Trump is Failing Miserably and the American People Know It
The President's First 100 Days: Take Two
A new Fox Poll released on April 23 showcasing President Trump’s approval ratings after his first 100 days in office has made one thing clear: Trump is deeply unpopular with most Americans. The poll touched on various key issues from immigration and the border, to the economy, inflation, and his overall job approval.
Trump's highest rating was on border security (55% approve). This is likely due to significant reductions in border crossings over the past few months. According to border czar Tom Homan, in March 2025, there were only 7,181 encounters at our southern Border.
Sounds good, right? Think again.
While 100,000 people have reportedly been deported since Trump took office on January 20, 49% of Americans disagree with his “shoot first, aim later” approach, as many of the deportations have been controversial, and carried out with little or no due process.
A Maryland resident, Kilmar Abrego García, was mistakenly deported to El Salvador in March of this year. And while the Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that the administration must facilitate Garcia’s return, no sincere effort has yet been made. In another case, a federal judge in Maryland ruled that the Trump administration illegally deported a 20-year-old Venezuelan asylum seeker. On Wednesday, April 23, “U.S. District Judge Stephanie Gallagher ordered the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and several agency officials to ‘facilitate’ the return of the asylum seeker, identified only as ‘Cristian’ in court documents.”
Just this past week, a 2-year-old U.S. citizen known only as V.M.L., was rounded up with her mother and older sister and deported to Honduras. U.S. District Judge Terry A. Doughty ruled the deportation came “with no meaningful process” and that “it is illegal and unconstitutional to deport, detain for deportation, or recommend deportation of a U.S. citizen.”
As for every other issue polled by FOX News, the president is underwater. BIGLY!
Other polls show almost identical numbers, and when it comes to how Americans feel about Trump’s policies surrounding the war in Ukraine, he’s faring no better than 40%.
Polls mean a lot to Trump as do people's perception of him. After FOX’s poll was released, his aids hid the ketchup while the president fired off the following on his social media platform, Truth Social:
Back in 2019, Trump complained, “My worst polls have always been from Fox,” after a FOX survey showed him with a 56% disapproval rating. “There’s something going on at Fox, and I tell you I’m not happy with it.”
If FOX’s poll sent Trump into a tirade, I have to imagine he was none too pleased with yesterday's AP/NORC Poll that put his approval rating at 39%, just five points above his all-time low of 35% in January 2021.
Regardless of what the President thinks about the recent polls, it’s clear Americans are unhappy with what they’re seeing. However, polls often paint with a broad brush. If you look closer at the brush strokes, you begin to see some interesting trends.
According to the Pew Research Center:
84% of Republicans and right-leaning independents approve of the job Trump is doing, while just 10% of Democrats and left-leaning independents have a favorable opinion 100 days into his second term.
Among those with a more positive view:
Men (52% approve)
White adults (55%)
Adults 50 years and older (52%)
High school diploma or less (53%)
Among those with a more negative view:
Women (55% disapprove)
Black adults (78%)
Hispanic adults (62%)
Under 50 years old (56%)
College degree or more (60%)
54% of Americans believe President Trump behaves unethically in office.
53% of Americans don’t believe President Trump respects the country’s Democratic values or the Constitution.
51% of Americans have little or no confidence in the President's cabinet and those he surrounds himself with.
In short, while Trump retains strong support among his core MAGA base (he likely always will), 100 days into his second term, the broader American public is largely dissatisfied with his leadership. Additionally, independents are growing increasingly skeptical with only 29% satisfied thus far. Deep partisan, racial, gender, and educational divides are only growing sharper, and his handling of key issues—including immigration, foreign policy, tariffs, and the economy—has fueled widespread disapproval. And only 100 days in, the country has already seen two massive nationwide protests, with more likely to come.
The polls paint a clear picture: Trump is failing miserably and the American people know it.
